KRISS KRINGLE LIVE TREES

Kriss Kringle Live trees make a wonderful Christmas tree in your home. Keep the soil moist, decorate like you would any cut tree.  And after Christmas take it outside and transplant it to enjoy for many years to come.

Tip: In late fall before the ground freezes dig a hole in your yard where you would like to plant the tree. Then after Christmas take your living tree outside, remove it from the pot, place it in the hole and back fill with a few bags of garden soil. In the spring be sure to water well and fertilize with an evergreen tree and shrub fertilizer.

PLANTATION GROWN TREES

PLANTATION GROWN CHRISTMAS TREES ARE BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT THAN SYNTHETIC TREES

Somerville Nurseries was founded by John Somerville in 1950. Over 60 years later the company has emerged as one of the largest growers of Christmas trees in North America with over 2,000 acres in production in the Alliston area.

  • Real Christmas trees are farmed as a sustainable crop.
  • Real trees are bio-degradable, artificial trees reside in landfills forever!
  • Real trees are recyclable, artificial trees are not.
  • Christmas tree plantations provide a natural habitat over the 10 plus years they are growing.
  • Favoured hunting ground for birds of prey like Hawks, Kestrels, and Owls
  • Provide habitat for deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, skunks, and many varieties of birds.
  • One acre of Christmas trees will provide enough oxygen for 18 people annually.
  • Two and a half acres of Christmas trees will absorb 6 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

When your tree has to be recycled the process is a natural and beneficial one. Trees can be chipped and used for mulch. They can be used to house bird feeders throughout the winter months, or used in various ways to protect against wind and water erosion.

CARING FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE

HERE ARE A FEW SIMPLE STEPS FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR TREE THAT WILL HELP YOU ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY SEASON.

  • Store your tree in a cool area protected from the wind.
  • Cut 1/2" - 1" (2 - 3 cm) off the butt, much like you would with a cut flower, to alloW water uptake then put immediately into a water-holding stand. If this is maintained, the tree should last one to two weeks. Some species, like Fraser Fir, will last considerably longer. Treat a cut tree like you would a cut flower!
  • Check water supply daily and add more water when necessary.
  • Keep tree away from heat sources.
  • Turn off all the tree lights if you leave home and before retiring at night.
  • Never use lighted candles or combustible decorations.
