PLANTATION GROWN CHRISTMAS TREES ARE BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT THAN SYNTHETIC TREES
Somerville Nurseries was founded by John Somerville in 1950. Over 60 years later the company has emerged as one of the largest growers of Christmas trees in North America with over 2,000 acres in production in the Alliston area.
- Real Christmas trees are farmed as a sustainable crop.
- Real trees are bio-degradable, artificial trees reside in landfills forever!
- Real trees are recyclable, artificial trees are not.
- Christmas tree plantations provide a natural habitat over the 10 plus years they are growing.
- Favoured hunting ground for birds of prey like Hawks, Kestrels, and Owls
- Provide habitat for deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, skunks, and many varieties of birds.
- One acre of Christmas trees will provide enough oxygen for 18 people annually.
- Two and a half acres of Christmas trees will absorb 6 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
When your tree has to be recycled the process is a natural and beneficial one. Trees can be chipped and used for mulch. They can be used to house bird feeders throughout the winter months, or used in various ways to protect against wind and water erosion.
